A new start for first-year students
Study abroad has long been an experience for juniors and seniors. A growing trend is now bringing it to the very start of the degree.
First-year students begin with a semester abroad and then continue on their home campus. Freshman Abroad offers this new group of students a unique first experience of university life, in Florence, Mantua or Turin.
The program is built university to university. Unicollege is an Italian degree-awarding university, not a third-party provider, and each Freshman Abroad cohort is defined in a direct agreement with the partner institution.

How it works
- 01
The home university admits the student and offers the Freshman Abroad semester.
- 02
The student remains enrolled at the home university for the whole semester.
- 03
Courses are agreed in advance with the home university, course by course, so that credits transfer back.
- 04
The student continues the degree on the home campus.

First-year courses in English
Students take introductory university courses taught in English, chosen together with the partner institution to match its first-year requirements, alongside Italian language. Every course comes with an approved syllabus, learning outcomes, contact hours and assessment methods.

Housing, meals and support
- Accommodation in Unicollege residences for the whole semester.
- Dedicated English-speaking staff and emergency contact services.
- In-person orientation on arrival and continuous student advising.

For Universities, Students, and Families
Freshman Abroad allows students to begin their university experience at an accredited Italian university while maintaining academic continuity with their home institution. Course selection, approval, credit transfer, and the transition back to the home university can be coordinated directly between institutions, providing students and families with a clear, university-supported academic pathway from the outset.
