Semester & Year Abroad Enrollment
Semester and Year Abroad programs are open to students from partner universities and to independent applicants. Two established enrollment pathways apply, according to the student’s home-institution relationship with Unicollege.
Enrollment Pathways
| Partner University Students | Independent Students |
|---|---|
| Application coordinated through the home institution, which can itself become a partner university through an inter-institutional agreement | Direct application to the Unicollege International Office |
| Institutional nomination required | No nomination required |
| Home-university selection may apply | Applications accepted throughout the year |
| Academic and administrative coordination between the institutions, or an independent arrangement with the student where applicable | Placement in the next available Fall, Spring, or Summer session |
Path A · Partner University Students
Partner-university enrollment follows a structured process organized into five phases, allowing the home institution and Unicollege to coordinate selection, nomination, academic approval, arrival, and final credit recognition. Open each phase to read the steps it contains.
Promotion and Home-University Application
Program Materials
Unicollege provides partner institutions with the relevant application materials, student information, academic resources, and program documentation for internal promotion and advising. Program promotion normally begins during the early part of the academic term preceding mobility: typically in the fall for Spring participation, and during the winter for Fall participation.
Home-University Application
Students submit their initial application through the home institution. Where the number of available places is limited, the sending university may apply its own selection criteria, including academic standing and other institutional requirements. Unicollege itself, however, does not operate an enrollment cap.
Nomination & Eligibility
Institutional Nomination
The home university formally submits its nominated students to Unicollege.
Eligibility Review
Unicollege reviews the nomination, verifies academic and program eligibility, and confirms whether participation may proceed.
Application & Academic Approval
Completion of Unicollege Documentation
Following nomination, admitted students complete the University application process, including the information required for academic enrollment, course selection, housing, meal arrangements, insurance, and immigration and visa procedures where applicable. The proposed study plan is formalized through the dedicated Course Selection process, allowing academic review before the beginning of the semester.
Final Approval
Unicollege completes the institutional review and confirms admission to the student and, where applicable, to the home university.
Arrival & Academic Calendar
Arrival and Orientation
Arrival is normally scheduled three to five days before the beginning of classes, allowing time for housing check-in, orientation, administrative procedures, and preparation for the academic term.
Academic Terms
Exact academic dates are published for each intake.
| Term | Typical academic period |
|---|---|
| Fall Semester | September → December |
| Spring Semester | January → April / May |
| Summer Sessions | May → August |
Immigration, Completion & Credit Recognition
Program Duration & Visa Requirements
Program duration and immigration procedures depend on nationality and length of stay. Students eligible for visa-free entry may undertake programs falling within the applicable 90-day Schengen framework. Programs extending beyond 90 days generally require the appropriate Italian study visa and subsequent immigration procedures.
Academic Completion
Where an approved academic or logistical circumstance requires departure before all assessment has been completed, remaining examinations or make-up activities may be completed online only with prior authorization from both Unicollege and the home institution.
Official Transcript
Following successful completion, Unicollege issues an official Transcript of Records listing the courses completed and the corresponding grades.
Home-University Credit Recognition
The home institution applies the completed coursework toward degree requirements according to its own academic and credit-transfer policies.
Reference Enrollment Timeline
The following timeline provides an evergreen planning framework. Exact dates are confirmed for each academic cycle.

Path B · Independent Students
Students whose home institution does not currently maintain an agreement with Unicollege may apply directly to the Study Abroad Office. Applications are accepted throughout the year, with eligible applicants placed in the nearest available Fall, Spring, or Summer session.
